The purpose of 'Praise'

09/08/2009 18:15

Does God feel good when we praise Him? Do you think your praise makes Him stronger or mightier than He is? Does your praise add any value to His character and nature? The answer is No.

Praising God does not add to His class. He is far above what we can think or imagine. He was, is and will always be awesome and mighty. You cannot add or subtract anything from Him.

Praising God will enrich your life. You receive the benefits of praising God. David praised God in Psalm 103:1-2 saying, "Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."

David showed his gratitude towards what God had done for him. God had forgiven him and healed him. David remembered the times when God saved him from his enemies and from Saul who was after David to kill him.

"Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant" (Psalm 135:3) We remember the greatness of God by praising and thanking God. His glorious power and wonderful presence is reinforced in our lives and in our understanding.

"From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger" (Psalm 8:2). We receive strength as we praise Him. His presence gives us strength. It builds our faith and gets us closer to Him. It silences our enemy, the devil and gets us marching with the angels of God.

Psalm 22:3 says, "But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. He dwells in our praises. He comes with His glorious presence filling our very beings with power.

Who is supposed to praise God?

Psalm 150:6 says, "Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD." Everything that God has created, who hold the breath of life in them are to praise God.

"Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name."(Psalm 100:4). We can enter God's holy presence with thanksgiving and praise. When we praise God with all our being, God's presence and power envelops our lives and changes the most difficult circumstance and situations that intimidate us.

You can praise God by singing, clapping, dancing, with musical instruments, jumping and much more. Whatever you do, do it for His glory. This is just a rehearsal that we do, and after we pass in glory, we will live forever to praise our master and creator. Amen.
