Flee Sexual Immorality - (Part I)

26/06/2009 16:16

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body (1Corinthians 6:18-20).

Paul is very clear when writing to the then Corinthian church and us Christians to flee sexual immorality and not allow even a hint of it among us. Flee means to run away as from trouble or danger. We need to run away from any kind of sexual immoral practice that is around us, and a BIG NO-NO to getting involved in it.

What is considered to be sexually immoral?

(Eph 5:3) According to Strong’s Dictionary, the greek word for sexual immorality is porneia, (sound’s familiar, is’nt it? You guessed it right. The word 'porn' comes from this word.)
It means 1) illicit sexual intercourse
a) adultery, fornication, homosexuality, lesbianism, intercourse with animals etc.
b) sexual intercourse with close relatives; (Lev. 18)
c) sexual intercourse with a divorced man or woman; (Mk. 10:11,12)

(Leviticus 18:1-30) speaks of Laws of Sexual Morality (Do's and Dont's) given directly by the Sovereign Lord God – The Creator and Judge of all.

Any kind of an "INCEST RELATIONSHIP" is a SIN :

No form of sexual relationship is allowed between family members, cousins and relatives. (Read the above verses in Lev 18)

God has not changed and nor has he altered His laws. He keeps His Word above His name (Psalm 138:2) and He honors and blesses the one who observes and obeys His Word. People have objected saying that Christ died and the law was abolished as Christ fulfilled the law (Romans 10:4,5)

The law is not destroyed, nor the intention of the Lawgiver disappointed; but full satisfaction being made by the death of Christ for our breach of the law, the end is gained. That is, Christ has fulfilled the whole law, therefore whoever believeth in him, is counted just before God, as much as though he had fulfilled the whole law himself. Sinners never could go on in vain fancies of their own righteousness, if they knew the justice of God as a Governor, or his righteousness as a Savior.

(Gal 3:12) The law, the Ten Commandments of God, The 2 great commandments that Jesus Himself gave us about loving God and loving neighbor are all applicable to us Believers (Christians) in Christ Jesus. The Apostles, disciples, early church kept God's Word which is the Law. If we truly love God we will keep His Word.

(Luke 10:25-28) Jesus asked him what he read in the law and then said ‘DO this’(obey, observe it’
The man quoted the scripture from (Deuteronomy 6:5) and (Leviticus 19:18)

The Bible is clear about fleeing sexual immorality many times. Some more scripture quotes for your reference are as follows :
(Acts 15:29), (Rom. 13:13), (1Cor. 6:18), (1Cor. 10:8), (Gal. 5:19), (Eph. 5:3), (Col 3:5), (1Thes 4:3), (Jude 1:7).
